In handball and basketball sections we run teams belonging to the 2nd National League.

In addition to the supporting elementary school the secondary grammar school also provides excellent opportunities especially in the field of teaching foreign languages, mathematics and sports. The faculty provides its students the whole teaching cycle starting from the first class of primary school ending with the graduation. Since 2008 our sports school has been operating as a basis for national recruitment especially in short track skating, basketball and wrestling, also serves as a basis for school based sport activities as well as competitions.

Teacher training has had a traditional history at the Faculty dating back to 1917. The legal predecessor institute practiced intermediate level training till 1959, between 1959 and 1975 at advanced level, and since 1975 training has been provided at higher educational level as the title of ‘teacher training college’ was awarded to the school in 1975.

By the end of the 1980s, due to alternative pedagogic intentions, the School began a 4-year-long, value-transferring and skill-developing teacher training, with dual specializations of teacher-librarian, teacher-cultural organizer, and then teacher-social educator. After a successful pilot phase, they started to operate as individual majors as follows: andragogy, IT-librarian and social educator. All these are the undying merits of the professional community of the Faculty of that time.

Social demand for teachers varies according to the demographic changes. Due to the comprehensiveness of the Faculty, the graduates have many accomplishments. Completing their qualification with special field in-service trainings they can easily succeed in finding jobs as successful experts in the different fields of education, public administration, in child welfare and social institutes as well as in the fields of informatics and culture. This sphere of employment is further reinforced by the three other fields of trainings such as the social acceptance of andragogy, social welfare and informatics. The Faculty can cater for the needs of the newly formed regional associations with providing them well-trained experts.

We operate educational and reactivation programs answering the needs of our region including reactivating training programs that also help to get the ethnic groups involved in higher education. The special needs of our region originate form the unique geographic situation the Faculty being attached to the capital, Pest, Jász-Nagykún, Heves and Nógrád counties involving a triple bound to the region through Szent István University.

In the field of training and developing human resources our academic programs serve the credo of Szent István University to fulfil its aims.

The scientific work of students is coordinated by the Scientific Committee of the School. Due to the collaboration of the departments involved in the many-sided training and the various scientific fields, the main topics include sociology, ethnic, problems, folklore, Hungarian and foreign linguistics as well as physical education.

Pedagogy has more important role than the others, since the working efforts are supported by modern and complex approaches of pedagogy, psychology, sociology, social-pedagogy at the Faculty and well-organized practical fields, elementary practice schools and mentor teachers. The topics concerning the social embedment of the Faculty and the examination of the cultural aspects of the region appear in PhD dissertations by the members of the departments, while the physical condition of the students and the SWOT analyses of elementary schools are being carried out simultaneously. The Virtual Regional Post-graduation Centre cooperates with seventeen Sub-regional Associations of Municipalities and education-related companies, institutions, sports associations and civil organizations.
